Beginning with Love Canal, public and private entities have spent billions in largely unsuccessful efforts to restore contaminated soil and groundwater to health-based standards. Dr. Rabideau will look at technical and socioeconomic factors impeding our progress, concluding with his research on the use of natural materials (volcanic rock and poplar trees) to detoxify groundwater.
