The Acting Company in Of Mice and Men
The Acting Company presents the national tour of John Steinbeck’s Of Mice and Men currently touring 44 cities in 30 states. The superb cast includes actors from some of the finest acting conservatories in the U.S., following in the footsteps of Kevin Kline, Rainn Wilson, Patti LuPone, Jesse L. Martin, and many more who all began their careers on tour with The Acting Company. Founded by John Houseman and Margot Harley in 1972, The Acting Company has brought 138 productions to 49 states and ten countries earning a 2003 TONY for Excellence in Theater, Obies, and Los Angeles Critics Circle Awards.
One of the most widely read stories in America, Nobel and Pulitzer Prize-winner John Steinbeck’s Of Mice and Men tells the tragic story of two California migrant ranch workers during the Great Depression: George, a smart but cynical man, and Lennie, a gentle giant with the mind of a child. George is ever cautious of his gentle giant friend, dangerously powerful yet in need of constant guidance. Although Steinbeck emphasizes the importance of dreams throughout this work, his characters are often powerless, due to intellectual, economic and social realities. Fate is felt most heavily as George is left to face the question of how to deal with Lennie who, although in great danger, thinks only of their future - their dream of owning a farm.
