Mediation: Resolving Conflict Wisely in a Conflict-Filled World
Conflict surrounds us, but often instead of parties achieving a mutually satisfying resolution, situations can get out of control. Heightened emotions can cause a negative and unproductive impact on behavior and communication. Sometimes even violence erupts. Even if agreements are reached, they are more commonly the result of the haggling process rather than productive, interest-based communications. Are we adequately attuned to the most productive strategies to resolve disputes—whether interpersonal or societal? This presentation will address the methods we, as humans, tend to use in dealing with conflict, alternative dispute resolution, productive negotiation strategies, and the value of mediation in resolving disputes in various contexts.
