Dr. Filomena Critelli, LCSW, is associate professor in the UB School of Social Work. She was awarded a Civic Engagement Research Fellowship in 2011-12. Currently, Dr. Critelli conducts research on women’s activism and gender based violence in domestic as well as international contexts, primarily in South Asia.Her recent research focuses on women of immigrant and refugee status and access to services in Buffalo. Prior to entering academia she directed a number of programs in immigrant communities in New York City, including a hospital-based program for survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence. Dr. Critelli’s research has been published in Violence against Women, Critical Sociology, Journal of Sociology and Social Welfare, Immigrant and Refugee Studies and the Journal of Comparative Family Studies.
