Alumni Reception and Discussion
SOLD OUT - Why Zombies, Why Now?
David Castillo, professor of Spanish and chair of the Department of Romance Languages and Literatures, has done extensive research on the zombies phenomenon and lectured internationally. Castillo will discuss the fascination with zombies in popular culture going back to Romero's classic films Night of the Living Dead (1968) and Dawn of the Dead (1978) and including TV shows like The Walking Dead and this year's blockbuster movie phenomenon World War Z. According to Castillo, zombies “look and act like what we fear we are, aimless and soulless consumers possessed by a destructive hunger we cannot understand.”
