Each film will be introduced with a brief presentation by experts and practitioners--from UB and the community--doing work or conducting research in the topic that the film focuses on. In January, 16 UB students and 2 staff traveled to Southern Louisiana as part of the Alternative Winter Break program at UB to do ecological restoration of the wetlands. Each of the students that attended returned with a stark understanding of the social, economic, and environmental issues facing Southern Louisiana. Several students from the trip will present on the work that was done during the week in the wetlands and introduce the film. "Beasts of the Southern Wild" Faced with both her hot-tempered father's fading health and melting ice-caps that flood her ramshackle bayou community and unleash ancient aurochs, six-year-old Hushpuppy must learn the ways of courage and love. free and open to the public
