Adolescent Social Drama: Is it Conflict, Aggression, Bullying, or Something Else?
Students live in a complex social environment rife with peer conflict and "drama," which may or may not be bullying. Katy Allen, Ph.D. will present research that explores "drama," which she defines as social interactions characterized by overreaction, exaggeration, prolongation, inflated and temporary relevance, excessive emotionality, and involvement of extraneous individuals. She will consider the reasons why adolescents "do drama" and discuss the subtle ways that drama can become aggression and bullying.
