The business world is hurtling toward Big Data to transform and elevate performance. But what if digesting much smaller, more manageable volumes of data – the kind that can unlock better decision making – is an overwhelming thought? This one-day course will explore the basic tenets of drawing value from data, providing a foundation in how to best take advantage of the information that a company produces every day. Participants will learn how to make data more meaningful through the following approach: Data collection (do’s and don’ts): kinds of data, data collection plans, sample size Manipulating (organizing and reorganizing) data for useful visualization and analysis: coding, sorting, extracting, sub-setting Visualization (turning data into tables and graphs): when tables are better than graphs, types of graphs, annotation of graphs Analysis (turning data into information): descriptive statistics, inferential statistics, hypothesis roadmap
