This workshop will be a practical working session and will provide assistance in developing and integrating a service-learning component into curriculum. Participants will learn how to create service-learning course syllabi and outlines. This workshop will also focus on the many details attended to for creating a positive learning experience for faculty, students, and the community in a service-learning context, including orientations. The workshop will provide a framework and resources for identifying, developing and managing community partnerships, and best practices for maintaining UB/community relationships. A broad range of resources, such as sample contracts and forms, sample syllabi, external associations, and potential project opportunities will be made available. Participants will also have the opportunity to discuss ethical and liability issues related to community-engaged pedagogy and research.

Faculty are encouraged to bring a copy of their course syllabi (with or without service-learning incorporated). Sample syllabi will be provided as examples of best practices.

This is the second workshop in a series of three related to service-learning.
