This workshop will explore the fundamentals of service-learning, including the theoretical and philosophical foundations of service-learning pedagogy from a practical perspective. Basic principles of service-learning pedagogy and creating community partnerships will be reviewed, with samples from current UB courses. Perspectives on service-learning experiences from a UB faculty panel will be provided by individual’s currently involved in the practice. Furthermore, participants will be able to discuss the rewards and challenges of service-learning to faculty, students, and the community. Funding opportunities and resources for service-learning courses will be reviewed and discussed.

Both those new to service-learning and faculty with experience in service-learning are invited to attend.

This is the first workshop in a series of three related to service-learning.
