Principles for Constructing Good Clicker Questions
This session will discuss how to use Clickers to go beyond rote learning and stimulate active engagement in the classroom. Tips and techniques will be shared to learn to develop effective Clicker questions. The development of effective questions determines the outcome of whether or not Clickers are a useful teaching tool. At first impression, one might think that having students respond to multiple-choice questions inspires rote-learning. If instructors take time to consider the best ways to design Clicker questions, then Clickers can be a very effective learning tool.
Objectives:
- Understand the basic use of Clickers.
- Learn a variety of methods to design Clicker questions.
- Learn how students’ interaction and participation can result in active learning.
Session Activities:
- Attendees will interact with a variety of Clicker questions.
- This session will model how Clickers can be used to encourage active learning.
- Group activities will be used to model collaborative learning using Clickers.
