Buffalo native and entrepreneur Robert Anstey is on the verge of something big, thanks to the Office of Science, Technology Transfer and Economic Outreach (STOR).

His company, Graphene Devices Ltd., is optimizing production of graphene, a carbon nanomaterial that can enhance the strength of compounds, including plastic, inks and coatings.

UB researchers developed a process for producing and commercializing the substance and STOR licensed it to Graphene Devices.

The firm is garnering interest with U.S. Army and Navy contracts, and federal and state awards totaling more than $600,000, as well as an award as winner in the Henry A. Panasci Jr. Technology Entrepreneurship Competition.

Referring to UB research that fuels start-ups like Graphene Devices, Anstey notes: "Our most important asset we have in Buffalo Niagara is our intellectual capacity."

STOR worked closely with Anstey while he wrote his business plan, which included ways to bring the novel technology to market. The center also connected the CEO with potential business partners, including venture capitalists and advisory board members.

STOR assists in the commercialization of technologies developed by UB researchers and works with established and start-up companies that use new technology to drive growth.
