UB faculty and university centers with ongoing research ranging from bioinformatics to simulation technologies to energy conservation are available to work with you.

Contracts and fees are determined by the individual units, often in conjunction with the Office of the Vice President for Research. The Office of Economic Engagement helps facilitate relationships, but is not part of contractual relationships or fee structures.

• The New York State Center for Engineering Design and Industrial Innovation (NYSCEDII) delivers innovative products to market faster, cheaper and more efficiently with advanced design technology. • SPIR (Strategic Partnership for Industrial Resurgence) subsidizes technically advanced multi-disciplinary projects for New York state companies to revitalize business in a new economy based on technical knowledge and development. • South Campus Instrumentation Center provides rapid response to the analytical needs of industry. A wide range of materials and products are suitable for analysis at this full service facility with emphasis on surface imaging and spectroscopy. Environment/Energy/Sustainability

• The Center for Architecture and Situated Technologies understands, plans and designs for how people interact with the technology in their environments, such as smart buildings and mobile technology. Contact Omar Khan at omarkhan@buffalo.edu or 716-829-5886.

• The Center for Assistive Technology uses prototyping, testing and research to develop assistive devices that make life easier for persons with impaired abilities. • The Center for Inclusive Design and Environmental Access (IDEA) makes environments and products more usable, safer and healthier in response to the needs of an increasingly diverse population. • The Center for Research and Education in Special Environments (CRESE) is a unique combination of simulation facilities, equipment and researchers who study human and machine performance in extreme environments. • The Institute for Lasers, Photonics and Biophotonics uses photonics—the science and technology based on light—to develop innovative products and processes in information technology, energy and health care. • MCEER Earthquake Engineering to Extreme Events helps companies and communities discover, develop and test tools and technologies to make people, structures and infrastructures more disaster resilient when faced with earthquakes and other extreme events. • The Structural Engineering and Earthquake Simulation Laboratory is an earthquake simulation, structural, and geotechnical engineering testing facility. Contact Andrew Whittaker at awhittak@buffalo.edu or 716-645-4364.

• The Toxicology Research Center / Atlantic OSHA Training Center is one of 25 authorized OSHA Training Institute Education Centers, providing health and safety training for manufacturing and construction industries in both private sector and government.  It also offers a wide variety of occupational and environmental safety and health training options (e.g. OSHA 500 Trainer series, HAZWOPER series, Confined Space, etc.) for students at all levels from area idustry, community outreach organizations, local government, healthcare and other educational institutions.  It also designs specific training and conducts courses at client facilities.  Contact Joseph A. Information Technology

• The Center for Computational Research (CCR) is home to high-performance computing and visualization resources, an expert staff and a wide range of support services to advance design and business practice. Contact info@ccr.buffalo.edu or 716-881-8966.

• The Center of Excellence for Document Analysis and Recognition (CEDAR) decodes documents and deciphers information by developing software that covers pattern recognition, machine learning, data mining and information retrieval. Clients include the U.S. Postal Service, IRS and various courts. Contact CEDAR at 716-645-6162.
