Politico’s New York PRO newsletter profiles UB’s new medical school building and the benefits it is expected to bring to both the university and the Western New York community when it opens later this year. The story reports that the new building and Buffalo’s resurgence are raising the profile of the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences as it is expanding its faculty and student body. “We've brought in a large number of new department chairs — most of them from outside of New York, let alone Buffalo — and they're recruiting new faculty that bring broader research interest, research funding, [National Institutes of Health] funding, clinical trials," Michael Cain, dean of the medical school, told Politico. Western New York will benefit from the medical school move and expansion, the article reports, with more medical students graduating from UB, and the new building catalyzing economic development and the development of the health care industry downtown. The article is available only to subscribers. University Communications will send the full story to non-subscribers upon request.
