Katie Kaney, MBA ’96, BA ’94, the youngest vice president of Carolinas HealthCare System, started a UB alumni chapter in Charlotte on a promise. "UB connected me to my career, so I stay connected to UB."
As a student and basketball player at UB, Kaney received help from then-UB President William R. Greiner to secure a scholarship that enabled her to earn an MBA. “When I moved to Charlotte, I promised President Greiner I would set up a UB chapter. We did it!” says Kaney, chapter president since 1998 and College of Arts and Sciences representative on the UB Alumni Association board.
She gives to UB because of what the university gave her: “My years at UB provided a foundation for the course of my life to date. In fact, it was a connection to an alumnus of the UB medical school that landed me my job with Carolinas HealthCare System 18 years ago! It just seemed natural to give back to show my gratitude and respect.”
