Resource Planning coordinates the review and approval process for Broad-based Fees. Financial Management coordinates the review and approval process for Departmental Event Fees, Educational Program Fees, Service Center Fees, and University Fees.

Broad-based Fees

Broad-based fees are generally charged to all enrolled students to finance discrete activities that benefit the student body excluding those activities that are part of the core instructional program.

As part of the Annual Resource Planning process, we gather requests from units and collaborate with Student Life to set Broad-based Fee rates. These fees are charged to students to provide specific services and ensure that the university is accommodating their needs. The fee recommendations are submitted to SUNY for approval before implementation.

Take note of the significant milestones throughout the yearly broad-based fee process to assist with planning efforts within units (these dates coincide with the full Annual Resource Planning Process Calendar):

  • October: Fall Student Consultations for next academic year Broad Based Fees
  • Late November or Early December: Provost and VPFA send memorandum regarding upcoming Annual Resource Planning process to units. Resource Planning sends additional information including resource planning guiding principles, university goals, Broad Based Fees rate request, and planning parameters such as tuition, enrollment, fees and salary increases.
  • Mid February: Spring Student Consultations for Broad Based Fees
  • Mid March: VPFA submits SUNY Broad Based Fee Request
  • Mid June: SUNY approves and VPFA communicates approved Broad-based Fee Rates to units
  • Early July: Financial Management delivers estimated Broad Based Fee totals for the current year.
  • Mid July: Resource Planning updates Broad Based Fee totals in the Internal Financial Plan to reflect final actual revenue for the prior fiscal year
  • Late July: Financial Management delivers final actual Broad Based Fee revenue for the prior year

Other Fees
