Managing Space For Your Unit

UB adheres to principles in planning for new space and the management of all space for the University at Buffalo — whether located on campus or off-campus. These principles apply to all university units — academic, administrative, housing and student services.

Requesting Space

Additional space needs should be addressed first within a department’s current allocation, then within the school or unit.  Existing space must be utilized as effectively as possible in order to support desired growth.

Only Facilities Planning and Management Officers (FPMOs) are authorized to request space.

Proposing Space Renovation

Renovation requests are large projects that require a building permit (such as a change of occupancy use, removing walls and doors, adding plumbing, HVAC modifications).

Only Facilities Planning and Management Officers (FPMOs) are authorized to request space renovations.

Requesting Directional Signage

Directional signage may be requested to provide guidance and raise awareness about healthy behaviors and UB requirements to reduce the risk of COVID-19.

Only Facilities Planning and Management Officers (FPMOs) are authorized to request directional signage.

Temporary Structure Request

For tents, sails or other structures, related to COVID-19

Temporary structures may be requested at the approval of Campus Planning and Environment, Health and Safety.

Only Facilities Planning and Management Officers (FPMOs) are authorized to request temporary structures.
