We recognize the great work that the employees of the University at Buffalo Police Department have performed during the first quarter of 2019.

Employees of the 1st Quarter of 2019

Officers Sergio DiSanto, Eric Radder and Christopher Tornabene

"At approximately 12:11 am on February 2, 2019, Amherst Police requested assistance with locating a suspect wanted for a rape that just occurred at the University Manor Inn on Main Street. UPD officers were advised that Amherst Police Officer Rusch was in foot pursuit of a suspect who may be armed with a gun. Officers Sergio DiSanto and Eric Radder converged on the suspect along with Officer Rusch at Main Street and Kenmore Avenue. The suspect pulled a large machete knife on responding officers. After a period of time, the suspect complied with officers’ commands and dropped the machete. While Officer Radder provided lethal cover, Officers DiSanto and Rusch moved in and successfully took the suspect into custody without incident.

In response to this same incident, Officer Christopher Tornabene responded directly to the crime scene at University Manor Inn. Officer Tornabene worked side by side with Amherst Police to obtain a description of the suspect and relay important information to our patrols which led to the successful apprehension of the suspect.

The suspect was subsequently charged with offenses involving strangulation, unlawful imprisonment, assault, and criminal possession of a weapon.

For their courage and professionalism which ensured the safety of the community, their fellow officers, as well as that of the suspect, it is our pleasure to announce Officers Sergio DiSanto, Eric Radder, and Christopher Tornabene as Officers of the Quarter."

Honorable Mention — Officers Bruce Pepi and Robert Adamski

"On March 24, 2019 a UB student reported that an unknown vehicle had struck and damaged her parked vehicle while she was away on spring break. Officer Adamski responded and took the initial report. Officer Adamski was able to locate and preserve camera footage of the crash and determine a basic description of the vehicle. Officer Pepi secured card swipe records for the time frame of the accident. Working with this information, a possible suspect was identified. Even though the suspect had already traded in the vehicle and was now driving a different car, Officer Pepi was able to work with the dealership to positively identify the original vehicle and owner. When confronted with this information, the driver of the striking vehicle admitted to having caused the accident. The driver was cited and the victim will now be covered by that driver’s insurance.

For their detailed investigation and exception effort, we are recognizing Officers Pepi and Adamski with this honorable mention."
