We recognize the great work that the employees of the University at Buffalo Police Department have performed during the third quarter of 2017.
On July 29, 2017 we received a report of a burglary and subsequent theft of a motor vehicle form the South Campus Dormitories. Shortly thereafter we were struck again by a suspect using the same apparent Modus Operandi. A week later, the Buffalo Police stopped the vehicle that was stolen from the South Campus and arrested the driver.
Dispatcher Guzman reviewed the mugshots of the suspect that Buffalo PD arrested and started to review surveillance camera footage from the South Campus. She was able to find and save video footage that positively identified this same suspect committing the burglaries on the South Campus. Investigator Colton was assigned to this case. Using the mugshot photos and the video that Dispatcher Guzman located, he was able to start linking this same suspect to an ongoing string of Burglaries to dormitories on both campuses. Investigator Colton was able to build evidence by working with local retailers to secure more video evidence of the suspect using stolen credit cards throughout Erie County. The suspect is now in custody and the Erie County District Attorney is proceeding with charges against the suspect for 8 of these burglaries and he will likely face charges from multiple jurisdictions.
This is a great team effort by our department! It is my distinct pleasure to recognize Dispatcher Catherine Guzman and Investigator Wayne Colton as our Employees of the Quarter
