Why We Simplified

A new face for MyUB

What we’ve changed, how we’ve changed, why we’ve changed.

We’ve taken your feedback, and put it into action. Based on direct student input, and reinforced by extensive research and user-testing, MyUB is becoming a leaner, more fluid, more easily accessible portal to UB. Now it will be easier and faster to find what you need.

Our research comes from many sources representing a wide variety of the student body, including undergraduates and graduate students, college-aged users and older users, and domestic and international students. We used a variety of methods including a panel diary of student experiences covering a two month period, usability testing, five focus groups with an annual MyUB survey which solicited over 11,000 responses (an unprecedented return) and unsolicited feedback from everyday users.

As we compiled our extensive research, we found several reoccurring themes that shaped the re-structuring process of MyUB. You wanted MyUB to have a clearer structure, less redundancy, less information, and to generally look less busy. You wanted a better search engine, a better announcement channel personalized to your interests and schedule, and a more extensive profile including your address and other personal information that’s easy to update. Finally, you wanted a link that provided you with more news, sports, weather, and events both on- and off-campus, and a direct connection to the library to renew your books with one click.

We’ve listened to everything you’ve said, and have come up with an action plan to be implemented over the coming year. The changes will make MyUB powerful, simple, and everything you want it to be to make your life at UB easier.
