Hall of Fame linebacker Mike Singletary paid a visit to UB’s football practice one Saturday afternoon this spring. Singletary, who was in town April 5 to visit his nephew Vantz Singletary, the Bulls’ defensive tackles coach, took time to address the team following practice.
Singletary, currently assistant head coach and linebackers coach of the San Francisco 49ers, was a 10-time Pro Bowl linebacker for the Chicago Bears from 1981 to 1992. In 1998, he was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Singletary said he was impressed with the job third-year head coach Turner Gill is doing. “I think he is a very charismatic guy,” he says. “But more than anything else, I think he is authentic. And that’s really important when you have someone who’s pretty consistent all the way through, and the word I hear about Turner is consistency. He’s that way all of the time, and that’s pretty exciting.”
