DUBLIN

August 1826, 2008

Explore Ireland from the cosmopolitan capital of Dublin. Learn about its literary heritage with a visit to the Writers’ Museum, stop at Trinity College to see the famous Book of Kells and delight in some of the sights in Dublin’s West End. Discover Irish history with a journey to the Neolithic monument of Newgrange; the Hill of Tara, the coronation site of 142 High Kings; and Slane, where St. Patrick lit the Pascal Fire. Travel to Belfast and its impressive squares and buildings. Admire the lovely Powerscourt Gardens and drive through Wicklow Mountains and Gap.

You’ll relish the splendor of the Italian Riviera while touring the winding streets of the charming seaside village of Sestri Levante. Lose yourself in the stunning coastal scenery leading to Santa Margherita, where the Gothic church of Santa Margherita d’Antiochia awaits. Cruise placid waters to the enchanting harbor of cosmopolitan Portofino and its awe-inspiring Punta del Capo lighthouse. In Genoa, you’ll have the opportunity to discover Christopher Columbus’s house. Visit the lovely Cinque Terre towns of Portovenere and Vernazza. Explore the walled city of Lucca, with its sensational Duomo, the Church of San Frediano and the Church of San Michele.

BARCELONA

October 6–17, 2008

Discover the fashionable and modern city of Barcelona, heart of Spain’s culturally distinct Catalonia region. Walk Las Ramblas before touring the prominent modernist architectural sites of Antoni Gaudí. In Spain’s enchanting Penedès wine country, see the town of Montserrat and enjoy Cava, the Catalan sparkling wine, on a visit to a local vineyard. Then, travel to the Basque Country as you drive along the scenic route from Montserrat to seaside San Sebastián on the Bay of Biscay. Tour the city of Bilbao and experience the sites of Pamplona.

UMBRIA HILL TOWNS

October 22–30, 2008

Explore Umbria from your base of Spoleto, a charming town where ancient ruins mix with stunning medieval architecture, and scenic paths showcase the many highlights. Admire the impressive Palazzo dei Consoli in Gubbio; the magnificent basilicas in Assisi, known as the home of St. Francis; and the churches in Montefalco, renowned for their stunning works of art. Journey to Todi and enjoy its medieval ambience. Best of all, a cooking demonstration and pottery lesson allow you to experience firsthand unique aspects of local culture.
