A camera is a must for the student abroad, not only to carry home memories of famous sites, but also to record exquisite moments in a new land. While visiting the Asakusa Shrine in Tokyo, Kathleen McClure spotted a looming Ultraman guarding the ROX Department Store nearby. “Being a shutterbug, I started taking some pictures,” says McClure, a UB English, political science and Asian studies major who spent a year at Tokyo’s International Christian University. “This little girl climbed up to the base to investigate the statue. It was too good to resist.” Kathleen’s image won top honors in the 2006 photo contest sponsored by the UB Office of Study Abroad.
