John McKendry, EdM 1980 & BS 1970, has been elected president of the board of directors for the Western New York Heritage Press. He is national sales manager of Hi-Temp Fabrications and resides in Lake View, NY.

Mel Passarelli, MBA 1980 & BA 1978, was hired as vice president of worldwide sales for Vistagy, a leading global provider of specialized engineering software. Previously, he worked as vice president of sales at Aspect Software. He lives in Nashua, NH.

Catherine Pilarz, BS 1980, was awarded the 2006 award of merit and accompanying title of fellow by ASTM International. She is responsible for the safety of Mattel and Fisher-Price product lines and resides in Buffalo, NY.

Dawn Columbare, MS 1981, is recipient of the 2006 SUNY Chancellorís Award for Excellence in Professional Service. Associate professor and director of nursing education at Jamestown Community College, she lives in Jamestown, NY.

*Marc A. Adler, MBA 1982 & BA 1979, received the Milton Plesur Excellence in Teaching Award from UBís Undergraduate Student Association for his commitment to students and quality of teaching. He is an adjunct instructor at UB, where he teaches marketing and advertising classes. Adler serves on the UB Alumni Association board of directors and is vice president for client services at Flynn & Friends of Buffalo, NY. He resides in Williamsville, NY.

*Richard S. Binko, JD 1982, became the first vice president of the New York State Trial Lawyers Association, an organization that has fought to preserve access to justice. Binko is a personal injury attorney practicing in Cheektowaga, NY, where he lives.

Paul M. Bowers, MS 1983 & BS 1977, was named to the 2006 class of Fellow Members by the National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE). Bowers has been a NSPE-licensed member since 1978 and resides in Amherst, NY.

Peggy Yehl Burke, EdD 1983, was promoted to dean of the school of graduate studies at St. Bonaventure University, where she also serves as dean of the school of education. Burke joined the university in 1978 and lives in Alleghany, NY.

Cheryl Duggan, BS 1983, was named partner at Eric Mower and Associates. She is also the business manager of the Buffalo, NY, office and resides in East Amherst, NY.

Margaret Gauthier, BS 1983, has been named director of tax planning in the corporate finance group at Bausch & Lomb. She is responsible for tax planning and also provides tax support for the companyís business development group. Gauthier lives in Henrietta, NY.

Rajashree Pandit, MBA 1983, has been appointed vice president and director of internal audit for Greater Buffalo Savings Bank. She has 16 years of public accounting experience and most recently worked as an internal auditor with M&T Bank. Pandit resides in Clarence, NY.

James H. Perry, BS 1983, is vice president, chief financial officer and corporate controller of United Industrial Corporation (UIC), and vice president and chief financial officer of AAI Corporation, a UIC subsidiary. Perry lives in Owings Mills, MD.

*Robert Barnes, PhD 1984 & MS 1976, was named the 2006 national outstanding advisor of Tau Beta Pi, a national engineering honor society. He is associate dean for external affairs and adjunct associate professor of industrial engineering in UBís School of Engineering and Applied Sciences. Barnes resides in Amherst, NY.

William Mueller, BS 1984, published two novels, Rome Revisited and The Magnificent Man. He is a consultant with Computer Sciences Corporation and lives in Alexandria, VA.

*Mark Palmisano, MBA 1984 & BS 1977, has been promoted to senior vice president at the insurance wholesale firm of Russell Bond and Co. He resides in Buffalo, NY.

David P. Miranda, BA 1985, will serve as a member-at-large for the executive committee of the New York State Bar Association. He is an attorney for the Albany firm of Heslin Rothenberg Farley & Mesiti PC, and lives in Voorheesville, NY.

Raffaella Borasi, PhD 1986 & EdM 1982, was appointed to a second five-year term as dean at the Margaret Warner Graduate School of Education and Human Development at the University of Rochester. She is recognized for her work as a mathematics educator and innovator in professional development for teachers and principals. She resides in Rochester, NY.

Marc Edwards, BS 1986, received the 2006 Alumni Award for Excellence in Research from Virginia Tech, where he is a professor of civil and environmental engineering in the college of engineering. He resides in Blacksburg, VA.

Eiran Wolfman, MBA 1986, JD 1985 & BS 1982, has joined SolomonEdwardsGroup LLC as a principal on the business consultants and accountants team. He will work in the firmís Atlanta, GA, office, and will focus on providing clients with a variety of tax services. He lives in Alpharetta, GA.

Celeste A. Fisher, MS 1988, is the author of Black on Black: Urban Youth Films and the Multicultural Audience (Scarecrow Press, 2006). She is a visiting assistant professor of sociology at Ithaca College and resides in Brooklyn, NY.

Amy A. Flaherty, BA 1988, was named to a second term on the attorney grievance committee for Western New Yorkís Eighth Judicial District. The committee is responsible for investigating complaints against attorneys. Flaherty is partner at Damon & Morey and lives in Buffalo, NY.

Gena Proulx, PhD 1988, is the first female president at Joliet Junior College in Joliet, IL. Previously, she served as president of the Dundalk and Essex campuses of Baltimore Community College. Proulx resides in Shorewood, IL.

*John Rog, BS 1988 & BS 1986, has been appointed director of clean manufacturing for Tenneco, a leading emissions control manufacturer. In this position, he will oversee all continuous improvement activities for the North American market. Rog lives in Canton, MI.

Andrew Roth, BA 1988, is a senior litigation associate at Berkman, Henoch, Peterson & Peddy in Garden City, NY. Roth resides in Bellmore, NY.

Calvin Chin, BA 1989, was promoted to director at Burnham Securities Inc., an investment management and banking firm in New York, NY. He also serves on the UB College of Arts and Sciences Deanís Advisory Council and lives in Scarsdale, NY.
