“Technology is so much more of an important topic in society today, both academically and personally. I am sure that the issue of technology and support and meeting student needs is a huge topic for current SA leadership. With Internet needs/access, computer requirements and cell phones, the impact, both positively and negatively, on the educational environment is important.”
“Probably like a lot of kids in student government, I really wanted to work on issues of social justice; and probably like a lot of kids in student government, I had a way overinflated sense of how much I actually was able to accomplish in this regard.”
“One of our biggest goals was to support school spirit. We worked closely with the athletics department to generate more interest in sports and other activities. And we worked hard to support the student clubs and other student activities, especially for commuters.”
“Currently, I am the assistant director for the Office of Student Life at Bowie State University in Bowie, Maryland. During my term as SA president, I was able to meet various people from the Department of Educational Leadership and Policy [in the Graduate School of Education]. The relationships I built paved the way for my career. I learned more about student affairs and became more interested in the field. Prior to Bowie State, I was the multicultural student coordinator/admissions counselor at Keene State College in Keene, New Hampshire.”
“Sometimes I miss those halcyon days of my youth, tramping over the windblown Main Street campus [now called the South campus] for another class in some temporary classroom, or laughing with one of my roommates about his all-purpose protest sign, ‘We Demand Action Now!’ Or working late at Norton Hall to get another issue of the Spectrum to press. Or huddling with my SA cohorts to help keep the lid on. I think we did some good during our time at UB.”
“The position of SA President was a truly formative experience. The position is unique in that, as an undergraduate student, you are given the rare opportunity to enact [things having] meaningful, university-wide impact. Throughout my tenure, we were able to provide student advocacy in pushing for such initiatives as building a North Campus health center, as well as providing a multitude of widely utilized services, such as bringing important contemporary figures, like Donald Trump, to speak to UB and our community.”
