2000s Classnotes

James Auricchio, J.D. 2000, has joined the firm of Thorn, Gershon, Tymann and Bonanni in the civil litigation department of the firm’s Buffalo, NY, office. He is a former assistant district attorney in Monroe County, where he handled matters ranging from white collar crime to violent felony offenses. Auricchio resides in Orchard Park, NY.

James Gannon, B.P.S. 2000, has been a project manager at Scheid Architectural in Buffalo, NY, since 2000. He is also the head instructor of the Niagara Frontier Elite Development Program for junior college ice hockey players and was appointed associate head coach for the University at Buffalo men’s ice hockey team in the spring of 2004. Gannon lives in Buffalo.

Jermetria Lacey, B.A. 2000, has received a juris doctor degree from Ohio Northern’s Pettit College of Law at Ohio Northern University. She lives in South Fallsburg, NY.

Robert G. Murray, J.D. 2000, has joined Harris Beach’s Buffalo, NY, office as an associate in the finance/economic development and environmental law practice groups. In this position, he will assist companies in attaining tax savings through transactions with industrial development agencies and work with clients to obtain tax savings through a variety of New York State tax programs. Murray is a member of the New York State and Erie County Bar Associations and resides in Getzville, NY.

Karianne Paolo, B.S. 2000, is attending the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University, working on a dual master’s degree in business administration and engineering management. She is doing her internship in market development at Guidant Corporation, a leading medical device company. Before returning to business school, Paolo worked as an industrial engineer for three years at Delphi Corporation. She lives in Evanston, IL.

Robert Thomas, M.B.A. 2000 & B.A. 1993, has been promoted to advisory systems management professional at IBM Global Services in Poughkeepsie, NY. He is a member of the Northeast Unix Infrastructure Team, providing programming, database and project management services. Thomas also earned certification as dive master and assistant scuba instructor from Scuba Schools International. He lives in Poughkeepsie.

Amy Bursor, B.A. 2001, is a professional performance artist. Since graduating from UB, she has performed in such places as the Trump Hotel and Casino and Bally’s Casino in Atlantic City, NJ. Most recently, she performed aboard the Norwegian Wind Cruise Line sailing the Caribbean. She resides in Astoria, NY.

Jonathan Kessler, B.S. 2001, has joined the firm of Ernst & Young as an internal auditor at the firm’s New York, NY office. He will leave his current position as a hedge fund accountant to join the firm and lives in New York City.

John A. Marmysz, Ph.D. 2001, was awarded the 2004 SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Scholarship and Creative Activities. He is an assistant professor of philosophy in the communications department at Corning Community College and authored Laughing At Nothing: Humor as a Response to Nihilism (SUNY Press, 2003). Marmysz resides in West Henrietta, NY.

Kathleen Tocke, M.A. 2001, has been named a senior consultant at Health Strategy Consulting, the leading strategy and content consulting group in the nutrition and natural products industry. She lives in Newport, RI.

Dennis Vargas, D.D.S. 2001, has joined the dental practice of Corning Dental Associates. He has served as an Air Force captain in the Dental Corps at McGuire Air Force Base in New Jersey and at the Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, OH. He resides in Elmira, NY.

Harvey Weinstein, B.A. 2001 & Honorary Doctorate 2000, was named a Commander of the Order of the British Empire by Queen Elizabeth II in recognition of his contribution to the British film industry. Weinstein is the cofounder of Miramax Films and has helped to fund numerous British film productions. He lives in New York, NY.

Michael Zinman, M.B.A. 2001 & B.A. 1999, has been promoted to ratings specialist for Standard & Poor. He works predominantly on midwest credits but has dealt with some municipalities in Western New York. He is a former municipal bond rating specialist for the company’s state and local government department. Zinman lives in Rockville Centre, NY.

Steven A. Gasiecki, M.S. 2002 & B.A. 2000, is a medical physicist for CPSI/MedCentral Health in Mansfield, OH. In this position, he runs the medical physics program for three community hospitals in central Ohio. Gasiecki has also been named the radiation safety officer for the facilities and has been declared a certified radiation expert in the state of Ohio. He lives in Lexington, OH.

Greg Bullaro, B.S. 2003, has been named northeast regional manager for the veterinary division of Vertical Health Solutions. He has extensive experience in nutritional supplement sales and spent one year managing research and clinical settings for the pharmacology and toxicology department of the University at Buffalo. Bullaro also served six years in the United States Navy as a water chemist and radiation specialist. He resides in East Concord, NY.

Michael M. Chelus, J.D. 2003, has joined the firm of Chelus, Herdzik, Speyer, Monte & Pajak as an associate. In this position, he will handle litigation files as well as general practice matters, including business and corporate law and intellectual property. Chelus lives in Orchard Park, NY.

Dalene M. Guarino, Ed.M. 2003 & B.A. 2001, has begun a new position in the University at Buffalo’s office of student advising services as the “UB Scholars” senior academic advisor. In this position, she will assist students in course registration and academic policy adherence, while developing programs for these undergraduate scholars. Guarino resides in Amherst, NY.

Heather McEntee, M.L.S. 2003 & B.A. 2001, is the head of the genealogy department at the Shreve Memorial Library. In this position, she acts as a genealogy librarian focusing on collection development and the public’s needs. McEntee lives in Bossier City, LA.

William Mandrick, Ph.D. 2004 & M.A. 2000, assistant professor at SUNY College at Brockport, presented his paper, “Design Theory: The Systems Engineering Perspective,” at the Delft Technical University’s Artifacts in Philosophy conference, October 3–4, 2004, in the Netherlands. Mandrick is forming a multidisciplinary research institute at SUNY Brockport and lives in Rochester, NY.

Melissa Rozycki, B.S. 2004, is a financial representative at Northwestern Mutual Financial Network. She specializes in assisting people with retirement planning, children’s education funding, tax strategizing and estate planning. Rozycki lives in Thiells, NY.
