Wenfan Yan, Ph.D. ’91 & M.A. ’89, has received a Fulbright Scholarship that will allow him to travel to China to lecture on American higher education at Beijing’s Normal University. Fulbright awards are made to U.S. citizens and nationals of other countries for a variety of educational activities, primarily university lecturing, advanced research, graduate study and teaching in elementary and secondary schools.
Yan is professor of professional studies in education at Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP), and chairman of the graduate studies committee for the Department of Professional Studies in Education. Before joining the IUP faculty, he was associate professor at the University of Texas and Gonzaga University in Spokane, WA.
Beijing’s Normal University, along with China’s entire education system, has been undertaking a fast-track reorganization of its education structure. According to Yan, “The goal of lecturing on American higher education will be to help [students there] understand the [education] research we do here.” This, in turn, will enable his Chinese counterparts to measure the effectiveness of their education reforms. Yan lives in Indiana, PA.
