On Thursday, January 8, the Metro New York City chapter of the UB Alumni Association hosted an annual alumni-student career networking night at the elegant Carriage House Center on East 38th Street in Manhattan.

This event, which was free to participants, garnered the support of more than 60 alumni, who graciously spent the evening sharing information with nearly 200 eager UB students and recent graduates. Topics discussed included career paths, résumé writing and organizational missions, as well as current internship and employment opportunities.

Among those in attendance were Tim Moi, B.A. ’88, and Tim Shum, B.S. ’03, who met at last year’s networking night. As a result of that meeting, Moi offered Shum a job in his company, the Maxim Group. All in all, it was a win-win situation, and a good reason to keep fellow UB graduates in mind for future job and internship opportunities.

Also, each alumni participant signed up to be a mentor in the Meet a Mentor program. Students who attended likewise signed up to participate in the program, which connects them with alumni mentors for advice on career concerns. Check the alumni Web site for future alumni-student networking opportunities in your area.
