John D. Burke, Ph.D. '75 & M.A. '71

John D. Burke, Ph.D. '75 & M.A. '71, has been named chief executive officer (CEO) and dean of Pennsylvania State Erie, one of only two four-year institutions in the Penn State system.

Burke has been a key leader in the development and success of Penn State Erie since 1981, and served as interim leader of the college since July 1, 2001. As CEO and dean, Burke is responsible for the quality of Penn State Erie's academic programs in teaching, research and service. He is also responsible for the overall operations of the campus, including strategic planning and budgeting, fund-raising, alumni and community relations, intercollegiate athletics and personnel matters.

Burke is the past senior associate provost and senior associate dean of Penn State Erie as well as a former associate dean of Empire State College.

He lives in Erie, PA.
