Gary D. Lessord, M.F.A. 1979
Gary D. Lessord, M.F.A. 1979, who focuses his artwork on wildlife and Christian themes, is nationally and internationally known for his painting, “Creative Splendor.” He began his career creating illustrations for magazine covers, books, brochures and the motion picture industry. His past clients include Disney, Universal Studios and Busch Gardens. Additionally, his painting, The Crucifixion, is currently featured on the cover of the international publication The Many Faces of Christ, a biblical artwork collection from museums and private collections around the world. He has held a variety of teaching positions, including adjunct art professor at Valencia Community College from 1995-96, wildlife drawing and painting instructor at Memorial Art Gallery, University of Rochester in 1986, and a painting and drawing instructor for continuing education programs at Greece Central School and Churchville Chili School. Lessord has received various honors and awards for his artwork, including the Featured Artist Award from the Florida Wildlife Federation, the Juror’s Award for Drawing from the Memorial Art Gallery and the Watercolor Award from the National Wildlife Exhibit. “Creative Splendor” has been exhibited in numerous art galleries, including the U.S. Senate Rotunda in Washington, DC, as well as at the Society of Illustrators’ Museum in New York City.
