The Canadian edition will help Canadian students discover their opportunities for postsecondary education in Canada or the United States. It will be published biannually and distributed by guidance counselors to students in Ontario, CA, high schools. Next Step Magazine, begun almost seven years ago, now has editions in 12 U.S. states, the Caribbean and Canada. He lives in Victor, NY.

Mark Beese, M.B.A. 1994 & B.S. 1987, has been named director of firm marketing at Holland & Hart LLP in Denver, CO. In his new position, he will assume responsibility for managing and directing all marketing, communications and public relations for the law firm, which has more than 250 attorneys and offices throughout the Rocky Mountain region. Thomas E. Obst, Ph.D. 1998 & M.S. 1984, a certified registered nurse anesthetist, has been named “researcher of the year” by the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists. This annual award recognizes a nurse anesthetist who has contributed significantly to the anesthesia profession through research. A clinical professor and director of UB’s nurse anesthetist program and patient simulation center, Obst has focused his recent research on the identification of the determinants of obstetrical anesthesia care among women in upstate New York. Over the years, he has presented these and other research findings before several international, national and state forums, and has published in a number of peer-reviewed journals.
