Joseph V. Fritz, Ph.D. 1990, M.S. 1986 & B.S. 1981, serves as senior manager of clinical development for Toshiba America Medical Systems in Tustin, CA.

David M. Privitera, B.A. 1990, is a project manager for ADF Construction Corp. of Amherst, NY. He is also the project manager for the construction of the Hadley Road Apartment Complex, now open on the University at Buffalo’s North Campus.

David Rodriguez, B.A. 1990, has joined the Adaptive Broadband Corporation as director of finance. He currently resides in Pittsford, NY.

Ginger Schroder, J.D. 1990 & B.A. 1987, an attorney with the law firm of Buchanan Ingersoll in Buffalo, NY, was recently installed as president of the Women’s Bar Association of the State of New York, Western New York chapter. She was also named a “40 under Forty” honoree for 1998 by Business First of Buffalo.

Dawn M. Colomb-Lippa, B.S. 1991, who recently earned a master’s degree, is a surgical physician assistant at Hartford Hospital in Hartford, CT.

Charles E. Eaton, B.A. 1991, has been appointed chief of staff to the Erie County Legislature.

Anthony L. Eugeni, J.D. 1991, has been named a partner in the Buffalo, NY, law firm of Damon & Morey LLP, where he will practice in the firm’s corporate and business law practice group, working primarily with closely held businesses and not-for-profit corporations. He is engaged in matters that involve corporate formations, reorganizations, acquisitions and financing. He is a member of the New York State Bar Association and the corporation law committee of the Erie County Bar Association.

Sean R. Kelly, M.S. 1991 & B.S. 1990, is on a six-month deployment to Okinawa, Japan, with the 1st Battalion, 8th Marines. His unit departed its home base of Camp Lejeune, NC, in January as part of the Unit Deployment Program (UDP). Annually, UDP units based in the United States go to Okinawa for six months of training. From Okinawa they can deploy to mainland Japan, Korea and other Pacific Rim countries.

Kathleen M. Mann, J.D. 1991 & B.A. 1988, has been named a partner in the Buffalo, NY, law firm of Damon & Morey LLP, where she will practice in the firm’s litigation department, focusing on medical malpractice defense, personal injury, insurance defense and insurance coverage matters. Admitted to practice in both New York and Massachusetts, she is a member of the Erie County Bar Association and the New York State Bar Association.

Steven L. Rubinstein, J.D. 1991 & Ed.M. 1983, has been named a partner in the Buffalo, NY, law firm of Damon & Morey LLP, where he will practice in the corporate and business law department and the health-care practice group. He represents hospitals, medical and hospital networks and associations, physicians groups and a variety of voluntary agencies and individual health-care providers. The author of Medicare Reimbursement Maze: A Primer for Physicians, he was previously a psychotherapist in private practice, senior counselor at the Canisius College Counseling Center, and an adjunct faculty member in the Canisius College department of psychology. A fellow of the American Orthopsychiatric Association, he is a member of the New York State Bar Association and the Erie County Bar Association.

Vincent G. Saccomando, B.A. 1991, has become associated with the Buffalo, NY, law firm of Damon & Morey LLP, where he will practice in the litigation department. He concentrates his practice in the areas of personal injury defense litigation, including products liability, professional malpractice and municipal liability. In 1994, he received his J.D. degree from Boston College Law School, where he was executive editor of the Boston College International and Comparative Law Review.

Kristin L. Swyers-Hopp, B.A. 1991, has accepted a job with Planned Parenthood as regional director for San Francisco and San Mateo Counties, CA.

Chad Wheaton, M.A. 1991 & B.A. 1988, received the 1999 Larry J. Hackman Research Residency Award from the New York State Archives and the Archives Partnership Trust for his work, “Exhibition and Spectacle: 150 Years of Culture, Politics and Business at the New York State Fair, 1841-1991.”

Edward L. Zelmanow, B.A. 1991, and his wife, Theresa, announce the birth of their daughter, Gwyneth Marcelina. The happy family now resides in Portland, ME, where both Edward and Theresa work for UNUM Insurance.

Chun (Chuck) Zhang, M.S. 1991, has been promoted to associate professor of industrial engineering at Florida State University. Currently serving as the graduate studies director in his department, he received the 1999 Society of Manufacturing Engineers’ Outstanding Young Manufacturing Engineer Award.

Joseph M. Bracci, Ph.D. 1992, M.S. 1989 & B.S. 1987, is a civil engineering faculty member at Texas A&M University in College Station, TX. He has been awarded a CAREER grant from the National Science Foundation for his work on earthquake-resistant structures.

Lauren M. Cabell, B.A. 1992, has joined the sports staff at the Los Angeles Times as a design editor.

Richard Cheong, B.S. 1992, who returned to Hong Kong after his graduation from UB, recently spent a week in Buffalo. He said he was glad to see the changes at the university and experience the friendly faces on campus. He currently works as product marketing manager for Saitek Limited in Hong Kong.

Sandra L. Cross, B.A. 1992, is the program manager of marketing for the Professional Golfers Association of America in Palm Beach Gardens, FL.

Richard G. Deitsch, B.A. 1992, is a reporter for Sports Illustrated For Women in New York, NY. He graduated from Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism in 1996.

Patricia J. Nelson, M.S.W. 1992, has been appointed director of the Chautauqua County offices of Catholic Charities of Buffalo. She is certified by the New York State Board for Social Work in the practice of psychotherapy.

William L. Prenevau III, B.A. 1992, district manager of Blockbuster Video, a division of Viacom, has been named district manager of the year in operations for the northeast zone. He has been with Blockbuster for nine years. He and his wife, Suzanne, celebrated the birth of their first child, daughter Hannah, earlier this year. They reside in Williamsville, NY.

Alicia R. Stone, J.D. 1992, is currently working as an administrative law judge with the New York City Environmental Control Board. She also serves on the board of the New York City chapter of the UB Alumni Association.

David R. Tufte, Ph.D. 1992, M.A. 1987 & B.A. 1985, is an associate professor and Ph.D. program coordinator with the department of economics and finance at the University of New Orleans, LA, and a visiting associate professor in the department of economics at Tulane University, also in New Orleans. He is married to Mary Jo Tufte, B.S. 1989, an instructor in the science and math division of Delgado Community College in New Orleans. Their first child, Benjamin David, was born February 9, 1999.

Brian D. Barry, M.B.A. 1993, M.A. 1993 & B.S. 1990, is a senior international sales representative at Oxychem in Williamsville, NY.

Robert Bencini, J.D. 1993 & B.S. 1985, joined the law firm of Falk & Siemer LLP in Buffalo, NY.

Alexa Petro Christopher, Ed.M. 1993, has been named an account executive by Crowley Webb and Associates in Buffalo, NY. A resident of Snyder, NY, she serves on the board of directors of Meals on Wheels.

Mark D. Mantel, Ph.D. 1993, is the founder and executive director of an international interdisciplinary performance festival based in Long Beach, CA. The first festival will begin in November 1999. The Rantings of an Underutilized American: Music, Essays and Poetry of Mark Mantel, a collection of essays on art, music, politics, education and general observations of American culture, will be released by an independent press in Los Angeles, CA.

Lori A. Reyes, B.A. 1993, recently received an M.S.W. with a concentration in family mental health from Syracuse University. She is the residential coordinator of the Postgraduate Center for Mental Health in New York, NY, a private, not-for-profit, multisite mental health organization for the people of metropolitan New York.

David S. Teske, J.D. 1993 & B.S. 1990, has joined the law firm of Alston & Bird LLP in its Atlanta office as an associate in the intellectual property transactions group.

Karen L. Wagner, Mus.B. 1993 & M.S. 1993, has been appointed second chair oboe at the Oregon Symphony in Portland, OR.

Jennifer L. York, B.A. 1993 & A.A. 1992, has been appointed investment executive at Advest Inc. at the firm’s Buffalo, NY, office. She will advise and assist clients in developing and implementing suitable investment strategies, and will be a vital member of the business team reporting to the vice president-investment and senior portfolio manager. Active in her community, she serves as a volunteer for the family liaison committee for Habitat for Humanity. She is a resident of North Tonawanda, NY.

Mark B. Beese, M.B.A. 1994 & B.S. 1987, has joined the law firm of Hodgson, Russ, Andrews, Woods & Goodyear LLP as director of business development. He is the immediate past president of the upstate New York chapter of the Society for Marketing Professional Services, a board member of the Greater Niagara Frontier Council of the Boy Scouts of America and a board member of Leadership Buffalo.

Thomas M. Burns, B.S. 1994 & A.A.S. 1992, formerly with Sodexho Marriott Services Corporation, has joined the firm of Lumsden & McCormick LLP as staff accountant. In this position, he will be responsible for auditing, accounting and tax services for commercial businesses and not-for-profit organizations. He is a resident of Lancaster, NY.

Jennifer Cross, Ed.M. 1994 & B.A. 1992, has been appointed assistant director of McKenny Union and campus life at Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti, MI.

Willmour M. Daniel, B.A. 1994, is the computer manager of the Virgin Islands Child Support System. He is currently working on the development of an information systems division for the Virgin Islands Department of Justice that will focus on integrating all justice systems there, including courts, jails and police. The focus will be on the development of a legal case management system, a prison tracking system, online police access and a court system.

Elizabeth Edinger, J.D. 1994 & B.A. 1994, is a law librarian and lecturer on legal research at the University of California, Berkeley School of Law. She is coauthor of Finding the Law, 11th ed., which was published this past summer by West Group.

Christopher E. Forth, Ph.D. 1994 & M.A. 1992, is lecturer of history at the Australian National University in Canberra. His wife, Jennifer L. Forth, Ed.M. 1994, took maternity leave following the birth of their son, Declan, in September 1998. She was scheduled to return in January to ANUTECH at the Australian National University of Canberra to resume teaching English as a second language for adults.

Jennifer L. Gozdziak, B.S. 1994, is a certified nuclear medical technician for a private radiology office in Williamsville, NY.

Bruce A. Izard, B.S. 1994 & B.A. 1989, has been appointed the new product development manager for Science First Inc. in Buffalo, NY. The company has been a manufacturer of physics equipment since 1960 and dental equipment since 1995.

William C. Van Nostrand, Ph.D. 1994, M.S. 1992 & B.S. 1991, and his wife, Christine Daly, B.S. 1990, proudly announce the birth of their son, Peter Michael, on October 5, 1998. Bill is the manager of information systems for Davidson Aluminum and Metal Corp. in Deer Park, NY. Bill, Christine, and proud big brother Stephen Christopher, age three, live in Ronkonkoma, NY.

Joseph L. Zaraszczak, M.S. 1994 & B.S. 1992, works for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Europe District. He is project manager in the Construction Division in Ansbach, Germany.

Alison J. Damore, B.A. 1995, has been hired as the director of marketing/director of adult day care for Southwinds Retirement Home Inc. and Homemaker Services of Orange County, NY. She would love to hear from students and alumni who are interested in careers in gerontology, or who would just like to say hello. In 1997, she received an M.S. in gerontology from Baylor University in Waco, TX.

Bryan E. Donovan, B.A. 1995, was recently designated a naval aviator while serving at Naval Air Station Whiting Field in Milton, FL.

John M. Ernst, Ph.D. 1995 & M.A. 1993, is an assistant professor of psychology at Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington, IL. The coauthor of several publications relating to his interest in the interaction between cognition and emotion, he was given a tenure-track position for the 1998-99 academic year. He has won the University Award for Excellence in Teaching at UB.

Adam A. Gittler, M.E. 1995 & B.S. 1994, spent 1998 living and working in Tokyo, Japan, at AMP Incorporated’s Asia Pacific operations office. In 1999, he was named quality manager of AMP China’s six locations and will be living in Shanghai, China.

Gretchen K. Knapp, Ph.D. 1995, M.A. 1991 & B.A. 1980, is an assistant professor of history at Illinois State University.

Bruce L. Levine, M.A. 1995 & B.A. 1989, announces the formation of 3d Development Group L.L.C. Based in Amherst, NY, the group specializes in the area of affordable multi-family housing development, focusing on federal and state housing programs.

Erik M. Mruk, B.S. 1995, has been promoted to “a not-for-profit senior” at Lumsden & McCormick LLP, certified public accountants and advisors. He resides in Lockport, NY.

Steven J. Ognibene, B.A. 1995, has been accepted to the University of Rochester’s General Surgery Residency Program at Strong Memorial Hospital. He is a graduate of the SUNY Health Science Center at Syracuse College of Medicine and has career interests in pediatric surgery, plastic surgery and trauma/critical care.

Peter A. Soukas, B.S. 1995, received the J.D. degree in May 1998 from Franklin Pierce Law Center in Concord, NH, specializing in intellectual property law. He is now the technology licensing specialist/patent advisor at the National Institutes of Health’s Office of Technology Transfer in Rockville, MD.

Rajesh Balkaran, B.S. 1996, is currently the manager of the Retirement Division, Teachers’ Retirement System of the City of New York.

Sylvia S. Kwong, B.A. 1996, is a group benefits coordinator with W.J. Jones Administrative Services Inc. in Lake Success, NY.

Meron Langsner, B.A. 1996, had his short play, Whining for Godot, performed in the Harold Clurman Theater in New York, NY. In January, another play, The Name of the Horse, was scheduled to be presented and published in LamiaInk!

Tanya L. Maurer, B.A. 1996, is adjunct faculty member at SUNY at Farmingdale, Briarcliff, and a high school English teacher on Long Island. She received an M.S. in education from Hofstra University in 1997.

David J. Melendi, B.A. 1996, is a county government/schools/transportation reporter for City News Service, a wire service that covers Southern California.

Teresa A. Ratka, M.B.A. 1996, has completed a two-year training program at Intel and is now working as a senior logistics analyst in the Global Transportation Organization. She is currently living in Arizona with her fiancé, Frank Fasciana.

Jill E. Schmidle, M.U.P. 1996, has been promoted to senior planner in James City County’s department of development management in Williamsburg, VA.

Allison L. Stooks, B.A. 1996, is a psychiatric social worker with the mobile crisis team, Albany County Department of Mental Health, in Albany, NY. In Chicago, she completed clinical rotations in outpatient psychiatry and in a substance abuse treatment facility. In June 1998, she graduated with honors from the University of Chicago’s master’s program in social work.

Julian Willock, M.A. 1996 & B.A. 1993, has moved back to his native land, the British Virgin Islands, where he has been appointed assistant secretary in the Ministry of Natural Resources and Labour with the Government of the British Virgin Islands.

Shahrzad Golchin, B.A. 1997, is currently employed as the art/photography assistant of Redbook, part of Hearst Magazines, one of the leading publishing companies in New York, NY.

David Luzon, J.D. 1997, joined the law firm of Falk & Siemer LLP in Buffalo, NY.

Edward C. Mitchell, B.A. 1997, graduated from Officer Candidates School in Quantico, VA, in August 1998, and was commissioned a second lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps. He is currently a second-year law student at the University of Detroit-Mercy School of Law in Detroit, MI. Upon graduation from law school and admittance to the state bar, he will practice law as a U.S. Marine judge advocate.

Deborah E. Conroe, M.B.A. 1998 & B.S. 1997, has been named a staff accountant at Buffamante Whipple Buttafaro P.C. in its Jamestown, NY, office.

Joseph M. Falcone, Ph.D. 1998, was recently hired as a tenure-track assistant professor of physics at East Tennessee State University in Johnson City, TN.

Judith E. Gendler, M.S. 1998, has recently accepted a position as HIV/AIDS epidemiologist (surveillance coordinator) for the State of Delaware, Division of Public Health.

Karen A. McGowan, B.A. 1998, has been hired by Crowley Webb and Associates, a Buffalo-based marketing communication agency, as an account coordinator.

Neva Morales, M.S. 1998, is a research coordinator at Mt. Sinai School of Medicine in New York, NY.

Melissa Mortimer, B.S. 1998, recently received her commission as a naval officer following completion of Officer Candidates School at Naval Aviation Schools Command, Naval Air Station, Pensacola, FL.

Jonathan W. Nelson, B.S. 1998, has been named a staff accountant in the Jamestown, NY, office of Buffamante Whipple Buttafaro P.C.
