On the move with new dean
Mark H. Karwan has been appointed dean of the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences.

"Mark has a lot of energy, a lot of fresh ideas and a lot of savvy in working with the community at large," said UB President William R. Greiner in announcing the appointment.

As interim dean for the past year, Karwan strengthened the school's base of financial support. He also formed the Dean's Advisory Council, which offers support and advice on industrial relations, education, student groups, new programs and job placement for graduates.

UB duo at the White House

Buffalo's Castellani/Andriaccio Duo‹critically cited as one of the great guitar duos of our time‹performed at the White House December 19 at a private reception for invited dignitaries who were touring the house by special invitation of the First Family.

The event was the first classical guitar performance at the White House since the late Andres Segovia performed there in 1984.

The duo is composed of Joanne Castellani, of the UB music faculty, and her husband, Michael Andriaccio. Both are alumni of the university's music performance program. The couple records on the Fleur de Son label and has received a National Endowment for the Arts Solo Recitalists Fellowship.
