James W. McLernon, B.S. 1950, of Bloomfield Hills, Mich., purchased five General Motors axle and forge plants in March 1994 to form American Axle and Manufacturing. Two of these plants are located in Buffalo.

Dietmar Seyferth, B.A. 1951, professor of chemistry at MIT, was elected a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.

Robert H. Smith, B.A. 1952, retired from an Air Force career and from nearly 20 years as a senior systems analyst with Gulfstream Aerospace Manufacturing in Savannah, Ga.

Angelo James Sabia, B.A. 1953, of Yorktown Heights, N.Y., is a development associate with OSi Specialties. He received the 1994 Henry E. Millson Award for Invention for his contribution to silicone textile softener technologies.

Harold M. Updike, B.S. 1954, of Clearwater, Fla., has written three books: Forty Years and Counting, a Nurse's Story; Around the World in Twenty Years and Emergency.

William J. Sullivan, M.D. 1955 & B.A. 1949, of Los Angeles, has had a forensic psychiatry specialization since 1980 and has been an expert psychiatric witness in various court cases.

Rita Marie Ganim, A.A.S. 1957, of East Aurora, N.Y., is president and founder of Humor Happens Associates, whose main focus is the value of humor as a stress reliever and "social lubricant." She also founded NAME IT NOW!, a business specializing in generating creative names for various products and organizations.

Harriet Jane Walker Humes, B.S. 1957, of Kenmore, N.Y. published a cookbook, Anthology of Recipes.

Stan Elman, Ed.M. 1958, of Arcadia, Calif., just returned from Warsaw, Poland, where he was a Fulbright visiting professor at the Library School, University of Warsaw.

Thomas R. Beecker, Jr., J.D. 1959, an attorney engaged in private practice and active as a corporate consultant, has been elected to the board of directors of Hauptman-Woodward Medical Research Institute Inc. in Buffalo.

Gregory E. Frey, B.S. 1959, recently joined Niagara Investment Advisor as executive vice president and senior portfolio manager. He was formerly vice president of trust investments at Fleet Investment Advisors in Buffalo.
